Women’s Lacrosse Team Drops 10-3 decision to Saint Joseph’s

The Wagner College women's lacrosse team fell behind by a 7-3 margin at halftime and wound up on the short end of a 10-3 decision to Saint Joseph's in a game played at Drexel University due to poor field conditions on the Hawks' home field. 

With the loss, Wagner falls to 1-1 on the season, having defeated Bucknell 12-11 in the Seahawks' season opener on Feb. 24. With the victory, Saint Joseph's improves to 2-1 on the season. 

Scoring goals for Wagner were senior Teri Noll (Elbridge, NY/Jordan Rlbridge-Central), and sophomores Carolyn Clark (Syracuse, NY/Westhill) and Lauren Petrik (Syracuse, NY/Baldwinsville). Senior Alex Johnston (Manlius, NY/Fayettteville-Manlius) had six saves in goal for the Seahawks. 

Noll's goal came with 22:49 left in the first half and tied the game at 1-1. Petrik then found the net 48 seconds later on a free position shot which gave Wagner a 2-1 lead. Trailing 5-2, Clark notched Wagner's final goal of the game, which drew the Seahawks to within two goals at 5-3. Saint Joseph's then reeled off five unanswered goals bridging the first and second half in fashioning the 10-3 win. 

Saint Joseph's received two goals apiece from Julie Minewear, Jenna Martino and Grace Dinn. Goalie Alisha Aquilino had eight saves for the Hawks. Saint Joseph's out-shot Wagner 22-14, led in draw controls 9-4, and held a 24-19 advantage in ground balls. 

The Seahawks are next in action on Saturday, March 6 when they host Manhattan at 1:00 pm
