Villanova, PA. - The Wagner water polo team split its two MAAC Water Polo League games on Saturday at Villanova to move to 4-2 in conference. The Seahawks defeated Villanova 15-4 before falling to Marist, 10-5.
Wagner (12-11, 4-2 MAAC) cruised to the 15-4 victory over Villanova in game one, but fell behind 3-1 early in game two against Marist. Freshman Lauren French (Colmar, PA / North Penn) put Wagner on the board with her 17th goal of the season.
Both teams scored twice before the end of the second quarter to make the score 5-3 at the half.
The Red Foxes control a decisive third period, outscoring the Seahawks 4-0 in the third quarter to take a commanding 9-3 lead. Sophomore Natalie Pyrz (Harleysville, PA / Souderton) continued her scoring spree with two goals in the defeat. Senior Nicole Maichrowicz (Temple City, CA / Temple City) found the back of the net with 10 seconds remaining in the half for her 24th goal of the season.
Junior goalie Kelsey Rodgers (Anaheim Hills, CA/Fullerton JC) registered double digit saves once again with 10 saves.
Wagner continues MAAC Water Polo League play on Saturday, April 18th at Siena. The Seahawks will play Iona at 11:30 a.m. and Villanova at 4:00 p.m.
