Kelly Blundin (Plymouth Meeting, PA/ Plymouth-Whitemarsh) scored four goals and junior midfielder
Janine Bright (Commack, NY/ Canmack) and senior attack
Jessica Richmond (Jenkintown, PA/ Jenkintown) added three goals apiece but it was not enough as Robert Morris ran past Wagner 19-14 in Northeast Conference play.
Withthe win, the Colonials improve to 5-5 on the season while the Seahawks fall to 2-7.
Senior Kara Blakeley led Robert Morris with five goals. Four other Colonials joined Blakeley with multiple goals in the win. Senior Emily Tomlinson recorded a hat trick and senior Jennifer Collins, junior Ali Gibbons and freshman Courtney Sicinski each notched a pair of goals. Senior Ashley Levering dished out a game-high four assists for the Colonials.
Within the first five minutes of action, Wagner tallied goals by senior midfielder
Cara Gonzalez (Syracuse, NY/ Westhill) on a free position shot and another by sophomore attack
Karen Vitkus (Skaneateles, NY/ Skaneateles) to take the early 2-0 lead. At 5:59, Blakeley tallied RMU's first goal of the day. Freshman Colleen O'Donnell followed with another Colonial goal at 8:13 to tie things up and 40 seconds later Collins gave the Colonials the lead for good.
During the next 7:30 of play, Robert Morris added three more goals to its total to build a 6-2 lead. The Seahawks were finally able to find their way through the Colonials' resilient defense when Bright scored her second goal of the day. Bright's goal was followed by two more Wagner goals to bring the score within one at 6-5.
Robert Morris responded by scoring six of the next seven goals to take a 12-6 halftime lead. A three-goal splurge by the Colonials, within a 48-second span, improved RMU's lead to 15-7. Wagner responded with two goals to cut it to 15-9. Gibbons was able to give Robert Morris back its eight-goal lead with two back-to-back goals and then at 17:43 Blakeley gave the Colonials their biggest lead at 18-9.
The Seahawks made a run in the last 10 minutes of the game, outscoring RMU 5-1 down the stretch, including the last three goals of the game.
RMU junior goalie Erica Webb finished the game with 11 saves, while Seahawk junior goalie
Alex Johnston (Manlius, NY/ Fayetteville-Manlius) tallied 13 saves in the defeat. Robert Morris led 22-13 in draw controls and went 1-of-3 on free-position shots, while Wagner was 5-of-13.
The Seahawks continue their two-game Western PA swing with a contest at Saint Francis (PA) on Sunday in an 11:00 am start.
