Seahawks Hold Off Late CSUSB Rally For 9-8 Victory

Sophomore Dana DeCinque scored the game winning goal in Wagner's 9-8 victory
San Bernardino, CA – The Wagner College Seahawks improved to 5-6 on the season with their first west-coast win over Cal State San Bernardino on Wednesday. The women tacked on six second-period goals en route to the 9-8 non-conference victory at the CSUSB Aquatic Center.

CUSB BOXSCORE

Freshman Rebecca Hannings (Lansdale, PA/North Penn) provided a spark for the Green & White, tallying one of her two goals in the third period to expand Wagner's lead. Sophomore Dana DeCinque's (Collegeville, PA/The Hill School) first marker of the season proved to be the difference in the contest as the Coyotes rallied from a 9-6 deficit to get within one at 9-8 with 2:09 left in the match, but a stingy Wagner defense did not allow the equalizer.

For the Coyotes, junior Kaitlin Hartman scored five of their eight goals including a tally in the fourth period that brought CSUSB within one. Junior Marilyn Doughty, freshman Emily Hove and junior Kelsey Morino accounted for the other Coyote scores. Sophomore goalkeeper Bryanna Burns had eight saves for CSUSB.

Hannings, senior Nicole Maichrowicz (Temple City, CA/ Temple City) and freshman Chelsea Beck (Reading, PA/Wilson) each scored twice for Wagner. The other goals came courtesy of senior Alexandra Tomlinson (Telford, PA/Souderton), freshman Lauren French (Colmar, PA/North Penn) and DeCinque.

Junior goalie Kelsey Rodgers (Anaheim Hills, CA/Fullerton JC) had six saves in the cage for the Seahawks.

Wagner faces off against No. 10 Loyola Marymount University on Thursday. Game time is scheduled for 3:00 PM (6:00 PM East Coast).
