Poughkeepsie, NY – The Wagner College Seahawks advance to the semifinals of the ECAC Women's Collegiate Water Polo Championships with a solid 13-9 win over the third-seeded and MAAC Preseason favorite Iona College this afternoon. The Seahawks will face second-seeded Brown University at 8:30 PM with a trip to the finals on the line.
The Women were led by the team's leading scorer
Alex Tomlinson (Telford, PA/Souderton), who claimed three goals in the Seahawks' second win of the season. Four other members of the Green & White chipped in with two goals apiece, including
Sara Olguin (Whittier, CA/Sonora),
Laura vanderBent (Shillington, PA/Mifflin),
Nicole Maichrowicz (Temple City, CA/Temple City), and
Natalie Pyrz (Harleysville, PA/Souderton Area). Pyrz joined teammate
Chelsea Beck (Reading, PA/Wilson), who claimed a goal and a season high four assists, as the team's leading point scorers with five total points.

Kelsey Rodgers (Anaheim Hills, CA/Fullerton JC) was a force in net, denying the Gaels on 12 shots for the victory.
Wagner was behind 2-1 after one quarter but rebounded with back-to-back five goal period to transform their deficit to an 11-7 advantage. A final 2-2 quarter resulted in the 13-9 final.
The Seahawks converted seven goals in their 18 man-up situations. The team shot .520 from the field while claiming a season-high in goals scored (13), assists (9), and total points (22). Wagner also tied their season high in steals (13) and KO's Drawn (9).
Wagner will face Brown University at 8:30 PM. Statistics will be available later tonight.
