The Matchup
The mission for the Wagner College men's basketball team is straightforward. A win over Monmouth would earn the Seahawks a berth in the NEC Tournament with the number seven seed. A loss to Monmouth eliminates the Seahawks from the NEC Tourney. The Seahawks enter today's fray, with momentum forged by a three-game winning streak. After slaying the second and first-place teams in the
NEC in Mount St. Mary's and RMU last week, the Seahawks gutted out a 75-66 win at Quinnipiac on Thursday. Fifth-year senior guards Justin Drummond (Baltimore, MD/ McDonogh) and Joey Mundweiler (Olathe, KS/ Olathe East) scored 21 and 18 points, respectively to carry Wagner to the win over the Bobcats.

Monmouth also kept its NEC Tourney hopes alive with an impressive road win of its own on Thursday, a 75-67 come-from-behind victory at Central Connecticut St. Will Campbell and Travis Taylor led Monmouth with 20 points each. While the Hawks stayed alive in the race for the last NEC Tournament berth, the Blue Devils lost any hope it had of finishing in the top four and getting a home game in the first round. Trailing by seven midway through the second half, the Hawks came right back behind Campbell and Nick Deltufo, who sparked a 14-7 Hawks' surge capped by an Alex Nunner three that tied things at 60 with 4:57 left. Nunner's three with 2:18 left gave the Hawks their first lead of the night, 68-67. Central committed a pair of big turnovers late. Fifth-year senior forward Jamal Smith (Baltimore, MD/ Towson Catholic) was fouled hard on a breakaway by Quinnipiac's Jeremy Baker in the final seconds of the game and had to leave the game. His availability for the Monmouth game will be determined at game time.

The Series
Today's game marks the lone meeting of the season between the schools this season. Monmouth leads the overall series 31-19 but the Seahawks swept last year's meetings.

A Wagner Win Would...
>Clinch the Number seven seed in the NEC Tournament
>Improve the Seahawks' record to 16-13 overall
>Improve the Seahawks' NEC mark to 8-10
>Give the Seahawks four straight wins
