DAY 3 RESULTS
NEC RELEASE
New Haven, CT- Junior
Jessica Hart (Summerfield, NC / Northwest) received the 2009 Northeast Conference (NEC) Outstanding Swimmer award at the Northeast Conference Championships at Yale University.
Wagner finished the three day competition in second-place with 535 points while Central Connecticut State finished in first with 552.
Hart garnered this recognition after she set two NEC records in both butterfly events, one of which met the NCAA B standard (100 butterfly, 54.07). She also set two individual school records and a pool record.
In the first event of the day, senior
Alexandra Tomlinson (Telford, PA / Souderton) posted a second-place finish in the 1650 freestyle, with a time of 17:12.17. Following close behind in third was senior
Colleen Bowman (Hauppauge, NY / Hauppauge).
Freshman
Jakki Guenther (South Hadley, MA / South Hadley HS) notched a bronze medal while setting a school record in the 200 backstroke, touching the wall in 2:06.69. Freshman
Breanne Sweeney (Staten Island, NY / Notre Dame Academy), freshman
Lauren Meyer (Hamden, CT / Hamden HS), sophomore
Caitlin Moore-Penaskovic (Dover, NH / Dover) and freshman
Mary Courtney Ryan (Dover, NH / Dover) followed with fifth, sixth, seventh and eleventh place finishes, respectively.
In the 100 freestyle, the Seahawks finished two-three-four. Freshman
Lauren French (Colmar, PA / North Penn HS) paced Wagner while setting a school record of 52.12. Following close behind French was freshman
Chelsea Beck (Reading, PA / Wilson HS) and senior
Lindsey Rodgers (Anaheim Hills, CA / Canyon) with third and fourth place finishes, respectively.
In the championship round of the 200 breaststroke, sophomore
Bethny Brown (Enfield, CT / Ennco Fermi High) finished in third-place with a time of 2:29.42 while freshman
Patricia Gavin (Staten Island, NY / Staten Island Tech) took second place in the consolation finals.
Hart set a school record in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:00.48, bettering the previous time by three seconds. Finishing sixth in the event was junior
Melanie Rodriguez-Lapman (Chesire, CT / Chesire).
Wagner completed the competition with a first-place finish in the 400 free relay, setting a school record with a time of 3:30.35. The relay team consisted of Hart, Beck, Rodgers and French.
The Seahawks return to action Saturday, February 28 when they travel to Boston, MA to complete their season at the ECAC Championships.
