Martin’s 27 Leads Wagner Past Jackson St. 71-62 In Third Round of HoopTV Las Vegas Classic; Will Face Chicago St. Today at 5:30 pm EST.

Sophomore guard Chris Martin (Sicklerville, NJ/Apex Academies) poured in 27 points, including 22 in the second half, and freshman guard Ryan Conrad (Charlotte, NC/Providence Day) added 13 to lead Wagner to a 71-62 victory over Jackson St. in the third round of the HoopTV Las Vegas Classic.

With the win, the Seahawks improve to 2-9 on the season while the Tigers fell to 0-10.

Trailing 19-17 with 7:44 left to play, Wagner closed the half with a 16-8 run in seizing a 33-27 halftime lead. Conrad started the run with a three-point jumper and scored eight points during this critical stretch.

Freshman forward Josh Thompson (Richland, NJ/St. Augustine Prep) opened the second half scoring with a driving layup off a feed from Conrad to give Wagner an eight-point lead and the Tigers never got closer than six points the rest of the way. The Seahawks' biggest lead of the game was 13 on three different occasions.

Martin's marksmanship from three-point range (4-of-7) and from the foul line (11-of-12) were keys to the Wagner victory as the Seahawks shot a season-best 55 percent from the field for the game.

Conrad was 4-of-9 from the field and 3-of-5 from beyond the arc as Wagner shot 47 percent (8-of-17) from three-point range.

Senior center Michael Orock was a factor in the low post, tallying nine points on 4-of-5 shooting from the field while adding a team-high six rebounds while sophomore guard Tyler Murray added seven points.

Wagner will now face Chicago St.in the final round of the tournament on Wednesday at 5:30 pm EST.

NOTES – Martin's 27-point outing was the second-highest of his career, bettered only by his 34-point outing vs. Columbia (12/8). His 11 free throw attempts and 12 free throws made were both career highs. Tonight's outing came on the heels of a 21-point game vs. Nevada last time out on Dec. 19.
