Staten Island, NY – The Wagner College Men's Cross Country team earned the right to participate in the Regional Championships this Saturday, November 14th. The event, hosted by Boston University, will take place in Franklin Park in Boston, MA.
In his second season, sophomore
Zachary Spector (Yaphank, NY/Longwood) established himself as one of the elite runners in the area. In his last event, the Northeast Conference (NEC) Championships, Spector claimed his second consecutive all-NEC performance, finishing the 8K race in eighth place overall with time of 26:44.4.
Spector, the two-time NEC Athlete of the Week, will look to improve on his Regional's performance from a year ago, when he placed 151st in the 10K run with a time of 35:26.7. The event stands as the only time his collegiate career that he did not finish with Wagner's best time – yielding the team's top spot to
Thomas Rammelkamp's (Havertown, PA/St. Joe's Prep) 34:59.1 mark.
In addition to Spector and Rammelkamp, the 2009 Seahawks had strong performances from sophomore
Thomas Iannacone (Havertown, PA/St. Joe's Prep) and graduate student
Brian Halling (Amherst, NH/Souhegan). Iannacone's lowest finish came at the Quinnipiac 8K, where he placed 14th overall with a time of 26:51.6. Halling had an equally impressive season, finishing in the top-40 in each of Wagner's six events this season. Iannacone and Halling finished 195 th and 144 th in the Northeast Regional Championships one year ago.
The men's race is scheduled to begin at 2:30 PM.
