Staten Island, NY- The Wagner College women's soccer team suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat at the hands of Sacred Heart University this afternoon at Wagner College Stadium. Junior Catherine Del Medico (Park Ridge, IL / Maine South) scored the lone goal for the Seahawks, who fall to 1-13-2 (0-7-1 NEC) on the season.
After a scoreless first half, the Pioneers (7-7-1, 3-3-1 NEC) got on board when Samantha Kee headed in a goal off a corner kick from Alex Mack, in the 50th minute.
Four minutes later, Del Medico responded with the equalizer on a rebound from in front of the net, tying the game at 1-1.
Unfortunately for the Green & White, Sacred Heart's Ashley Testani would deposit the game-winning goal in the 85th minute on a shot from 13 yards out.
Sacred Heart bested the Seahawks in shots (37-11) and corner kicks (8-2). Sophomore goalkeeper Jen Emigholz (Staten Island, NY / Moore Catholic) finished with six saves, while her counterpart had two.
Wagner returns to action Sunday, October 25th when they host Fairleigh Dickinson University at 1:00 PM.
