La Salle Defeats Wagner In Men's Tennis Action

The Wagner men's tennis teams dropped a 7-0 decision to La Salle in non-conference Columbus Day action. The Seahawks are now 0-5 while the Explorers, an Atlantic 10 power, improve to 8-2.

In singles action, freshman Taylor Santoro (Absecon, NJ / St. Augustine Prep) again led the way, turning in a solid performance against Bill Nason before losing 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1. At No. 2 singles, junior Yirmeyah Beckles (Cincinnati, OH / Aquinas College) dropped a 6-2, 6-1 decision to Jon Maula. Freshman Pierre Yuzon (Bakersfield, CA / Centennial) was felled by Trevor Donovan at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-0. At the fourth slot, senior Zac Lewis (Colorado Springs, CO / Palmer) was blanked 6-0, 6-0 by Alex Tomaino. Classmate Scott Scriffignano (Morris Plains, NJ / Morristown) was impressive in defeat, losing 6-3, 6-3 to Dan Nieves. Rounding out singles action, Brandon George bested sophomore Nicholas Apicella (Peekskill, NY / Peekskill) 6-0, 6-2 at No. 6 singles.

The Explorers won all three doubles matches to claim the doubles point.

Wagner returns to action on Saturday, October 24 when the Seahawks travel to Saint Peter's.
