LIVE STATS

Wagner (7-4) rings in the New Year with a home date vs. long-time NEC rival St. Francis (NY). The Seahawks are coming off an 82-53 defeat at powerful Kansas St. of the Big 12 Conference on Tuesday. The Terriers (3-9), meanwhile, completed a two-game swing in the state of Ohio where they dropped games at Akron (77-70) and at Ohio University (70-53).

THE MATCHUP
Wagner has featured balanced scoring all season as three players are averaging 12.0 points or better in fifth-year senior guard Joey Mundweiler (13.9), fifth-year senior forward Jamal Smith (13.5) and senior forward Llew Radford (12.0). Radford is the team leader in rebounds at 8.0 per game while fifth-year senior guard Justin Drummond has dished out a team-best 3.9 assists per game while scoring at a 9.1 points per game clip. St. Francis (NY) is led in scoring and rebounding by 6-5 junior Kayode Ayeni who checks in at 13.3 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. Ayeni suffered a knee injury, however, vs. Albany on Dec. 22 and did not play on the two-game Ohio trip. He is listed as questionable for today's tilt. Sophomore guard Ricky Cadell, who is coming off a 30-point game at Ohio, averages 12.6 points while deep threat Stefan Perunicic is tallying 12.5 points per game. The 6-6 freshman from Serbia has hoisted 97 three-pointers and has hit on 40, a 41% average. The Seahawks have an all-time record of 36-42 vs. St. Francis (NY). Last season, Wagner won its only meeting between the schools, besting the Terriers 64-59 on Dec. 8 in a game that was televised live to a regional audience on MSG.

THE COACHES
Wagner College head coach Mike Deane is in his 25th season as a head coach and his sixth as the head man of the Seahawks. He holds an overall coaching mark of 423-297, having eclipsed the 400-win plateau last season. His 416 wins entering the season ranked him 27th among all active coaches. In his sixth season at Wagner, Deane is 81-76 on Grymes Hill. In 2007-08, Wagner delivered a memorable and milestone season, recording that 23-8 overall record and a 15-3 mark in the NEC, which was good for second place. The 23 wins set a school record for most wins in a season, besting the old mark of 21 wins accomplished on three occasions, 1967-68, 1978-79 and 2002-03. Brian Nash is in his fourth season at St. Francis (NY). Nash has compiled a 29-70 record in his three-plus seasons as head coach of the Terriers. He was named the 16th head coach in men's basketball history on March 30, 2005. Nash came to St. Francis from Seton Hall where he had served as assistant coach under Louis Orr since 2001. While at Seton Hall, Nash helped lead the Pirates to the 2nd round in the NCAA tournament in 2004 and the 1st round of the NIT in 2003.
