Staten Island, NY- The Wagner College women's soccer team battled the Manhattan Jaspers (3-3-1) to a 1-1 tie at rainy Wagner College Stadium. Senior captain and goalkeeper Leslie Reed (Indian Harbour Beach, FL/ Satellite) led her team between the posts while notching 15 saves.
Reed's spectacular performance in goal helped keep her team in the game as she moves her record to 2-3-2 on the season. The Florida native has compiled a total of 49 saves this season with a .803 save percentage.
The Jaspers' Courtney McMahon put her team ahead early in the ninth minute of the game, scoring from fifteen yards out off a centering pass by teammate Caroline Morse. This goal kept the Jaspers in the lead throughout the majority of the game as each team battled neck-and-neck to earn the win.
It was Wagner's Danielle Sheehan (Farmingdale, NY/ Farmingdale) that brought the Seahawks back into the game as she scored the tying goal in the 81st minute. Sheehan's goal came from 10 yards out after the Seahawk defense swarmed Manhattan's goal and popped the ball out to Sheehan giving her the opportunity to score.
Following two nail-biting overtimes, the game ended in a tie as the Seahawks move their record to 2-4-2 on the season.
Statistically, Manhattan dominated Wagner in the shots category 28-9. In corner kicks Manhattan led 8-3.
Wagner returns to action Sunday September, 28 when they travel to Loudonville, NY to face the Siena Saints. Game time is set for 1 pm.
