Wagner Swimming Romps Over NJIT, 155-19

Staten Island, NY- The Wagner College women's swimming team extended its winning streak to five last weekend against New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), defeating the Highlanders by a score of 155-19. This win brings the Seahawks record to 5-1, 2-0 in the Northeast Conference (NEC). 

The Seahawks dominated the pool in every event, notching 11 first-place finishes. Their first win came in the 200 yard medley relay clocking in at 1:55.76. In the 1000 yard freestyle, Colleen Bowman (Hauppauge, NY/ Hauppauge) swam un-contended, finishing with a time of 10:55.00. Chelsea Beck(Reading, PA/ Wilson) brought home a season best time of 2:00.02 in the 200 yard freestyle. Lindsey Rodgers (Anaheim, CA/ Canyon) led the way in the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly, finishing with times of 25.62 and 1:01.20, respectively. 

In the 200 yard individual medley, Jakki Guenther (South Hadley, MA/ South Hadely) finished atop the field with a first-place finish in 2:17.85. Lauren French (Colmar, PA/ North Penn) swam to a first-place finish in the 100 yard freestyle, recording a time of 55.42. Lauren Meyer (Hamden, CT/ Hamden) kept the momentum going in the 100 yard backstroke with a 1:04.97 finish. Alex Tomlinson (Telford, PA/ Souderton) garnered first-place in the 500 yard freestyle with a season best time of 5:13.54. In the 100 breaststroke, Kelsey Rodgers (Anaheim, CA/ Canyon) picked up the top spot with a time of 1:11.74. The Seahawks capped off the meet with a first-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:46.12. 

"We had some things from a racing standpoint that we wanted to focus on this weekend. I feel like our athletes did a real good job of keeping their concentration up and executing skills that we have been working on in training,” said head coach Mark Sowa. “They continue to improve on their approach to competition, which is progress." 

Wagner returns to action Friday, November 14 when the Seahawks travel to Piscataway, New Jersey to compete in the Rutgers Invitational.
