Sophomore Jess Lundgren of the water polo team is the Wagner College Walsh Electrical Contracting Women’s Student-Athlete of the Month for April after helping the Seahawks to 10 consecutive victories and a Metro Atlantic Conference (MAAC) Championship. The sophomore earned MAAC Defensive Player of the Year honors before the tournament thanks in part to leading Wagner in steals with a school record 142 as well as recording a team-best 167 points. In the MAAC Championship game against Marist, Lundgren helped seal the deal with a steal on the final Marist possession, giving the Seahawks a 9-7 win, and the programs first conference title since 2007. The Aussie was recognized as the Most Outstanding Performer in the MAAC Tournament, leading Wagner in scoring with seven goals over her two games. Additionally, Lundgren won MAAC Offensive Player of the Week honors for the fifth time this season on April 16, after leading Wagner to an 11-1 league record and the MAAC Regular Season Title. In four games over the weekend of April 12-13, Lundgren tallied 15 goals, seven assists, 22 steals, six drawn exclusions and two field blocks.
