Sophomore Daniel Zaccariello (Staten Island, NY / St. Joseph's By The Sea)
Sophomore Daniel Zaccariello (Staten Island, NY / St. Joseph’s By The Sea) earns his first Student-Athlete of the Month accolade of the year after posting several outstanding performances this past month for the Wagner track and field team.Â
Zaccariello competed in four meets during the month of January setting two school records and qualifying for the IC4A’s in two events in the process. At the Gotham Cup, Zaccariello etched his way into the record books with an outstanding IC4A qualifying time of 2:29.17 in the 1000 meter run.
At the Mountain Hawk Invite held at Lehigh University, Zaccariello ran a blistering 1:55.72 in the 800 meter run finishing almost a full three seconds ahead of the pack. The sophomore later teamed up with Thomas Iannacone (Havertown, PA / St. Joe’s Prep), Timothy Mendez (West Haverstraw, NY / North Rockland) and Zachary Spector (Yaphank, NY / Longwood) to clinch a first place finish in the 4x800 relay.
The final weekend of January saw another record breaking performance from the sophomore who clinched his second entry into the IC4A’s in the 1 mile run with a stellar 4:08.80 second place finish at the Metropolitan Championships.
The Seahawks are back in action on Wednesday, February 1st in at the Monmouth Invite in Long Branch, NJ.
