Jacqui Thompson, Women’s Basketball 12/1/11
Freshman point guard Jacqui Thompson has made a huge splash in the first month of her Seahawk career. The gritty, gutsy floor leader averaged 8.2 points per game in Wagner’s six November contests, which was second on the team, while handing out a team-high 3.8 assists per game, a figure that leads all Northeast Conference (NEC) freshmen. Thompson scored a game-high 12 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the field while grabbing two rebounds and dishing out one assist vs. Lehigh (11/27), a performance that came on the heels of an eight-point outing at Lafayette (11/25) where she went 4-of-9 from the field while hauling in two rebounds and handing out two assists. Thompson’s week began with a six-point, four-assist effort at BIG EAST member Saint John’s (11/22). In the week prior, the point guard’s scoring and passing abilities were on full display as she was named the Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week. Thompson went for15 points, four assists, and two steals in a 66-54 victory over Columbia (11/16) while shooting 5-of-7 from the floor. Next time out at NJIT (11/19), she spent most of her time creating easy buckets for others, dishing out nine assists, the most by a Seahawk since Feb. 7, 2009 when Andrea Reed handed out nine vs. Saint Francis (PA).
