Melissa Mazzitelli

Melissa Mazzitelli begins her third year at Wagner College and first full season as Assistant Athletic Trainer.  Mazzitelli arrived on Grymes Hill after earning her Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training from Temple University in May 2019.

Mazzitelli spent the 2019 spring semester gaining athletic training clinical experience at Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA. With the Dragons, she collaborated with an athletic trainer to treat and watch over 2,000 student-athletes. Additionally, she developed step-by-step treatment and rehabilitation programs for post-operative students and practiced multiple different and unique manual muscle techniques as a form of treatment.

Mazzitelli spent the 2018 fall semester as a student athletic trainer for Springside Chestnut Hill Academy in Chestnut Hill, PA. With the SCHA, she completed on-field assessments, dealt with a multitude of injuries, and took several students through a step-by-step progression following concussions. She worked with the school’s main physician to understand the differences between dealing with minors and adults, including developing lines of communication with parents and teachers while caring for students under the age of 18.

During her time at Temple, Mazzitelli worked in the athletic training office as a student-worker, where she supported the women’s field hockey program. She worked personally with the team doctors and hospital staff and assisted with pre and post-operative appointments, MRIs, X-rays, and injections. She also helped to develop and implement rehabilitation programs for athletes, including athletes with concussions and post-concussion syndrome.
