SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The Wagner College women's soccer team battled unbeaten Seton Hall to a scoreless draw on Thursday evening at Owen T. Carroll Field.
Junior goalkeeper
Abigail Marcello recorded seven saves to earn the shutout as Wagner (1-5-1, 0-0-0 NEC) held the Pirates (4-0-1, 0-0-0 Big East) off the scoreboard. Seton Hall finished with an 18-8 advantage in shots and placed seven attempts on target, all of which were turned away by Marcello.
The Seahawks generated several scoring opportunities throughout the contest, including a first-half shot on goal by junior
Deirdre Meberg that forced a save from the Pirate goalkeeper. In the second half, Wagner earned three corner kicks and nearly broke through late when junior
Kelly Gallagher's shot in the 87th minute was turned aside.
Gallagher and Meberg recorded Wagner's two shots on goal, while juniors
Megan Knapp and
Hailey Knapp, sophomore
Riley Frederick, freshman
Addison Twomey, and sophomore
Danielle Ciuci each registered a shot.
The Seahawks will continue their road swing on Sunday, Sept. 13, when they travel to Philadelphia, Pa., to take on Saint Joseph's. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. on ESPN+.
