LOPATCONG, N.J. — The Wagner College women's golf team secured a fourth-place finish on the tournament leaderboard, climbing one spot on the final day to conclude the event with a total score of 910 (+58) on Monday morning at the Architects Golf Club.
The team opened with a 310 in round one, relying on counting scores from junior
Marifer Calleja Pineda (72), sophomore
Palwasha Ali (78), freshman
Leah Sheerin (79), and sophomore
Lani Park (81). In round two, Wagner improved by six strokes to post a 304, anchored by Park's eight-shot improvement (73), alongside counting rounds from Calleja Pineda (74), Ali (78), and Sheerin (79).
The Seahawks delivered their best performance of the tournament on the final day, recording a sub-300 team round of 296 (+12). The late push was done by Calleja Pineda's under-par 69, backed by Park (74) and Ali (77), as well as a clutch 76 from
Lauren Silva, who broke into the top four counting scores for the first time in the event.
Calleja Pineda led the way with a fourth-place overall finish. After opening with a 72 (+1) and a 74 (+3), she carded a tournament-low 69 (-2) in the final round. Playing both nines under par (34 out, 35 in), keeping her card clean with just two bogeys and rolling in four birdies on holes 2, 11, 15, and 17.
Park earned a 22nd-place finish following day-two bounce back. After an opening-round 81 (+10), she rebounded to shoot a 73 (+2) in round two, opening with three birdies in her first four holes. Park closed out the event with a steady 74 (+3) in round three, anchored by an even-par 36 on the back nine.
Ali placed T-31
st, showing a strong late-round execution throughout the event. She carded matching 78s (+7) in the first two rounds before delivering her best performance in the final round with a 77 (+6). Her closing 18 was highlighted by a strong inward nine (37), with back-to-back birdies on the 16th and 17th holes to play her final nine at just 1-over par.
Sheerin with a T-41
st place, opened the tournament with back-to-back 79s, highlighted by a front-nine 36 (+1) in round one that featured six pars and a birdie on the 9th. She finished with an 81 (+10) in round three, notching her third par-5 birdie of the tournament on the 11th hole.
Silva recorded a T-47
th place, lowering her score in every single round. After opening with an 89 and an 84, Silva shifted in the final round to fire 76 (+5). Her closing 18 was powered by an even-par 36 on the back nine, which included a trio of birdies on holes 10, 13, and 17.
Competing as an individual,
Maria Jose Calleja Pineda placed T-53
rd, improving each day. Following an opening-round 90, she trimmed six shots in round two for an 84 before closing out her tournament with her best round of the week, an 83 (+12), supported by consistent par saves across her final 18 holes.
