BRIDGEWATER, N.J. — Junior goalkeeper
Abigail Marcello was named NEC Defensive Player of the Week and an NEC Prime Performer, the conference announced Monday.
Marcello was outstanding for the Green and White last week, recording two clean sheets in a pair of scoreless draws against Seton Hall and Saint Joseph's. The junior made seven saves against Seton Hall on Wednesday and added three saves against Saint Joseph's on Sunday.
Marcello has been one of the NEC's most in-form goalkeepers as of late, allowing just two goals over her last four matches.
The Havre de Grace, Maryland, native now ranks second in the conference in clean sheets (2) and goals-against average (1.13), third in save percentage (.816) and tied for third in saves (40).
This marks Marcello's second weekly honor of the season, as she was also named NEC Co-Defensive Player of the Week on Aug. 17 after recording 15 saves across two games.
Marcello and the Seahawks return to action on Sunday, Sept. 20, as Wagner opens NEC play by hosting Central Connecticut State in a rematch of the 2025 NEC Championship game. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. on Hameline Field.
