WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. — The Wagner College field hockey team fell to no. 19 ranked Monmouth by a score of 8-1 on So Sweet A Cat Field on Sunday.
Senior Natalie McGivern scored for the first time this season to begin the fourth quarter. Junior Romy Matthies recorded her first assist of the season on the Seahawks' score. In the cage, freshman Miley Brezgel earned seven saves on 21 shots from Monmouth, with 15 on target. The Green & White took seven shots with six on cage.
Monmouth took two penalty corners while Wagner attempted one, all of which occurred during the second period.
Next up, the Seahawks begin NEC play at Mercyhurst on Friday, Sept. 18. Start time is set for 2:00 p.m. at Saxon Stadium.
