STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The Wagner football team has announced its captains for the 2026 season: senior defensive lineman Logan Barnes and junior quarterback Jack Stevens, as chosen by their teammates.

"I'm proud of the leadership these guys have shown both on and off the field," said head coach Tom Masella. "Our captains have earned the respect of their teammates through their work ethic, toughness and commitment to the program. They set the standard every day, and I know they'll do a great job leading our team this season."

Barnes returns to Grymes Hill after serving as a captain in 2025. The Staten Island native appeared in all 11 games last season and recorded 40 tackles, including 18 solo stops and 4.5 tackles for loss. He posted a season-high seven tackles against Duquesne, including four solo tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss. Barnes was also named to the 2026 Preseason All-NEC Team.

Stevens was selected as a captain for the first time in his career. The junior from San Diego, Calif., appeared in nine games in 2025, completing 74-of-118 passes for 537 yards and two touchdowns while adding 216 rushing yards and three scores on 76 carries. He threw for 90 yards, including a 45-yard touchdown pass, at Kansas, passed for 128 yards and rushed for a touchdown against Georgetown, and ran for 92 yards and a score at Robert Morris.

The Seahawks will open the 2026 campaign on Saturday, Aug. 29, when they host Robert Morris at noon in an NEC matchup. It will mark the first time Wagner has opened a season against a conference opponent since facing Saint Francis U in 2011.
