STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Wagner College Athletics announced Alavid Melo Iturralde as the Wagner Men's Golf Graduate Assistant Coach.

Melo Iturralde joins the staff after four seasons as a player in the program, where he served as team captain and competed for the Seahawks at the NCAA Division I level. He becomes the second appointment to Wagner golf this month, joining Director of Golf Jim Engles, who was named to oversee the men's and women's programs in August.

A native of Veracruz, Mexico, Melo Iturralde arrived at Wagner from Prepa Anáhuac and developed steadily across his career on Grymes Hill. He earned Northeast Conference Player of the Week honors and posted a runner-up finish at the Carpetbagger Classic. As a sophomore he was one of only three golfers on the roster to compete in every event on the schedule, and he represented the Seahawks at the NEC Championship.

Before college, Melo Iturralde trained as a player at the Jim McLean Golf Academy in Texas under Justin Poynter, the 2020 North Texas PGA Teacher/Coach of the Year. He was recognized as the top-ranked player in Mexico's Zona Sur region in 2022.

In his new role, Melo Iturralde will lead daily practice and individual player development, support recruiting, and build out the program's performance analytics, designing the round-by-round statistical tracking system the team will use to guide practice priorities across the season.

Melo Iturralde earned his bachelor's degree in Finance from Wagner College and is currently completing his M.B.A. at Wagner. He is fluent in English and Spanish.
