ERIE, Pa. — The Wagner College women's lacrosse team improved to 4-1 in NEC play following a road conference win over the Mercyhurst Lakers on Saturday at Saxon Stadium.
The Seahawks (4-7, 4-1 NEC) jumped out to a 7-0 lead before the Lakers (1-9, 1-4 NEC) found the back of the net themselves. In the opening frame, senior Kristina Pisano, junior Amelia Logan, and junior Sydney Ecker all scored two goals while senior Shea Saracino tacked on one goal to be responsible for the Seahawks' seven scores.
In a high-scoring second quarter that featured ten goals between the two teams, Wagner outscored Mercyhurst 6-4 in the frame to take a commanding 13-5 lead at halftime.
After 30 minutes of play, the Seahawks had attempted 20 shots on target to the Lakers' five while winning the draw control battle, 15-3. Wagner scored five goals in the second half while allowing six to prevail by a margin of seven goals, 18-11.
At the end of regulation, Pisano and Logan ended with four goals each. For Pisano, Saturday's game marked the third time in her last four appearances in which the midfielder has netted four goals. Junior Sydney Ecker tallied her first hat-trick of the 2026 campaign, with two goals being scored in the first half and one in the second.
Saracino and sophomore Sydney Mulroony scored two goals apiece. Junior Carolyne Chase, junior Lea Cini, and freshman Jocelyn Sponzo each added in one goal. For Sponzo, her strike against Mercyhurst will count as the first of her collegiate career. Senior Emily Ryan dished out a career-high six assists in her first game back since March 26, 2025.
Defensively, junior Grace DeCarolis played the first half in net before freshman Isabella Odland relieved DeCarolis of her duties. DeCarolis recorded two saves while Odland earned one. DeCarolis received her fourth win of the season.
Pisano, senior Erin Rooney, and junior Kendra Hamilton caused two turnovers each to lead the Seahawks. Junior Alex Wright racked up a season-best 11 draw controls, becoming the fourth Seahawk since 2016 to accomplish the feat. Mulroony also added six draw controls.
As a team, the Seahawks collected 22 draw controls to the Lakers' eight. Wagner corralled 17 ground balls to Mercyhurst's 18.
