STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The Wagner women's tennis team fell to Sacred Heart 5-2 in its season opener on Friday.
The Seahawks lost the doubles point to start the match, but not without a fight. Sophomore
Victoria Madail and junior
Dariana Vera came just short of winning on court 1, ultimately dropping the set 4-6.
In the singles round, Madail and Vera made up for their doubles loss and won each of their singles matches. After dropping her first set 4-6, Madail went the distance in set two with a 7-6 victory, then finished the job in set three with a 6-3 win.
Vera also dropped the first set of her match 4-6 on court 5, but she too would come back with a 7-5 win in set two, and a 10-8 win in set three. However, the Seahawks would lose the remaining singles matches, resulting in a 5-2 team victory for the Pioneers.
