BRIDGEWATER, N.J. — Sophomores Ben McLaughlin and Mia Goodale both earned NEC Swimmer of the Week for their performances against Binghamton, the NEC announced on Wednesday. This is the second time this season where Wagner won both the men's award and the women's award in the same week.
This is McLaughlin's first NEC award this season, and his second overall after winning NEC Rookie of the Week on Jan. 22, 2025. For Goodale, this is her fourth Swimmer of the Week win this season, making it consecutive years where the Seahawks produced a four-time Swimmer of the Week winner (Rebekka Luoto).
Against the Bearcats, McLaughlin swam the 1000-yard freestyle in under 10 minutes (9:52.64), the fastest among Wagner swimmers in that event. He also placed third in the 200-yard freestyle (1:47.87), and second in the 500-yard freestyle (4:54.32), both times finishing first among Wagner swimmers.
Goodale also competed in three individual events, and won two of them. She started by placing first in the 200-yard freestyle (time), and after placing third in the 50-yard freestyle (time), she won the 500-yard freestyle and finished almost four seconds ahead of the second place finisher.
Additionally, juniors Nikko Carrillo and Brooke Woolfe, along with senior Russell Gavino were named Prime Performers this week. The three combined for seven top-3 finishes throughout the meet.
Wagner will return to the pool for the NEC Championships in Geneva, Ohio on Feb. 16.
