WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. — The Wagner College men's lacrosse team dropped its third game of the young season to CAA member Monmouth by a score of 15-7 on Tuesday afternoon at Kessler Stadium.
The Seahawks (0-3, 0-0 NEC) fell behind 4-0 before finding the back of the net themselves. Freshman Dylan Popehn scored the first goal of the day for the Green & White, Popehn then scored his second goal of the day midway through the third period off of a dish from senior captain Jake Mitchell.
The Andover, Minnesota native has accounted for four goals in his first seven quarters of collegiate lacrosse.
Monmouth (2-1, 0-0 CAA) held a 14-3 lead after three quarters of action.
In the final period, Wagner outscored Monmouth 4-1. Mitchell, junior captain Terry Farrell, junior Griffin Edwards, and freshman Brendan Rosato were responsible for the Seahawks' fourth-quarter scores.
Defensively, senior captain Tristan McMahon recorded four ground balls and three caused turnovers while junior Angus Snow and sophomore Ryan Cunningham split duties in net.
Snow recorded five saves before Cunningham saved a career-high 11 shots in the second half.
The Hawks collected 20 face-off wins to the Seahawks' six. Monmouth took 42 shots with 31 on target; comparatively, Wagner took 30 shots with 18 being on net.
Next up, the Green & White travel to UMass Lowell for a noon start at the Cushing Field Complex on Saturday, Feb, 21.
