Men’s Basketball Welcomes FDU for Saturday NEC Matchup

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The Wagner College men's basketball team continues NEC play at home on Saturday, Jan. 31, hosting FDU for a 1 p.m. tip-off inside the Spiro Sports Center. The game will be streamed live on NEC Front Row with Joey Wahler and Ray Martel on the call.

Saturday's contest marks the 125th all-time meeting between the programs in a series that dates back to 1955. FDU holds a narrow 63–61 edge after earning a 68–61 victory in the teams' first meeting this season on Jan. 19. The Knights also swept the season series a year ago.

FDU (7–15, 4–5 NEC) enters the weekend following a 58–57 road loss at Stonehill. Head coach Jack Castleberry is in his third season at the helm. The Knights rank sixth in the NEC in scoring (68.6 ppg) and second in rebounding (37.8 rpg). Senior guard Eric Parnell leads the team with 12.4 points per game, while senior forward Taeshaud Johnson paces the squad on the glass with 8.3 rebounds per contest. Picked fifth in the NEC Preseason Coaches' Poll, FDU earned the No. 4 seed in last year's NEC Tournament before falling to top-seeded CCSU in overtime.

Wagner (6–13, 1–7 NEC) looks to bounce back after a 62–55 home setback against CCSU. Graduate student Travis Gray led the Seahawks with 17 points, shooting 7-for-8 from the free-throw line, while junior Nick Jones added 10 points. Sophomore Binael Basil chipped in eight points and a team-high eight rebounds. Wagner held a 35–32 advantage on the boards but was unable to overcome CCSU's edge in points in the paint.

The Seahawks rank second in the NEC in rebounding (37.8 rpg) and fourth in scoring at 72.6 points per game. Jones leads the Green & White with 14.6 points per contest, ranking seventh in the league, and is tied for second in steals (1.8 spg). Redshirt senior Jaden Baker averages 3.9 assists per game, tied for third in the NEC.

Following Saturday's matchup, Wagner will close its three-game homestand on Thursday, Feb. 5, hosting Le Moyne at 7 p.m.
