STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The No. 20 Wagner women's water polo team opened play at the Bruno Classic with a setback against No. 13 Harvard, losing 12-5 at Blodgett Pool before the team again fell 14-7 against No. 23 Marist in the second matchup of the day at Coleman Aquatics Center.
Game 1 — No. 13 Harvard 12, No. 20 Wagner 5
Harvard struck first and carried a slim edge early, taking a 2-1 lead after the opening quarter. Wagner stayed within reach behind steady defense and an early goal by senior captain
Magali Ogg that kept the contest tight heading into the second period.
The Crimson gained momentum in the second quarter, outscoring the Seahawks 5-2 to open up a 7-3 advantage at halftime. Wagner continued to push offensively, but Harvard capitalized on its opportunities to create separation before the break.
Both teams traded goals in the third quarter, with Harvard edging Wagner 4-1 to extend its lead to 11-4. Despite the deficit, the Seahawks continued to fight, generating quality looks and forcing key stops on defense. Wagner closed the contest on a strong note in the fourth quarter, matching Harvard with one goal respectively. While the Seahawks showed resilience late, the early scoring run proved decisive as Harvard secured the 12-5 victory.

Game 2 — No. 23 Marist 7, No. 20 Wagner 14
Wagner stayed close early in the opening quarter, trading goals with the Red Foxes before Marist pulled ahead. At the end of the first period, Marist held a slim 3-2 lead as both teams found offensive opportunities. In the second quarter, Marist extended its advantage by outscoring Wagner, 4-3, to build a 7-5 lead at halftime. The Seahawks continued to battle on both ends of the pool, but Marist's offensive pressure made the difference before the break.
After intermission, the Red Foxes added four goals to Wagner's lone score in the third quarter, increasing their margin to 11-6 heading into the final period. In the fourth, Marist continued its offensive rhythm with three more goals while limiting Wagner's opportunities. Despite the loss, the Seahawks showed flashes of balanced scoring and fought hard throughout all four quarters in Providence.

Next up, the Seahawks head to the Princeton Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 31 to take on Bucknell then Indiana at Princeton's DeNunzio Pool. The weekend will wrap up with a game Sunday, Feb. 1 against the hosting Tigers.
