STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The No. 20 Wagner Women's Water Polo team opens the 2026 campaign with two games at the Bruno Classic this weekend.
The Seahawks will start by facing Harvard at 9:30 a.m. and Marist at 2:45 p.m. on Saturday, January 24th.
Last Season
The Green & White wrapped up last season at 22-9 overall and nearly perfect in MAAC action, finishing 11-1 to earn their fourth consecutive regular-season conference championship. Since 2003, Wagner has collected a league-best 12 MAAC titles, highlighted by nine championships over the last 11 seasons.
Preseason Poll
Wagner has been selected as the preseason favorite in the 2026 MAAC Water Polo Coaches' Poll, as voted on by the league's nine head coaches. The Seahawks led the poll with 80 points and received eight first-place votes.
Nationally Recognized
For the eleventh consecutive season, the Wagner Seahawks were listed as a part of the CWPA Top-25 Preseason Poll, coming in at No. 20 prior to the 2025 regular season.
Throughout the course of the season, Wagner will face-off against seven other teams who were listed on the CWPA's Top-25 Preseason Poll.
Last season, Wagner finished as high as No. 15 in the CWPA national rankings.
Conference Dominance
Wagner women's water polo has continued to establish itself as the standard within the MAAC, extending its run of conference dominance into the 2025 season.
Over the past four-plus seasons, the Seahawks have compiled a 42-1 record in MAAC regular-season play, highlighted by three consecutive unbeaten league campaigns from 2022 through 2024 and another flawless showing in 2025. That success is part of a broader stretch of excellence, as Wagner owns a 97-1 mark against MAAC opponents over the last nine seasons.
The program's stretch includes just one setback that occurred on April 15, 2019, when both Wagner and Marist were issued forfeits prior to their scheduled matchup.
Aside from that administrative result, the Seahawks' last regular-season conference loss in the pool happened last year on April 14, 2025 to La Salle marking its first on-pool MAAC setback since April 11, 2015.
