NEW YORK, N.Y. - The Wagner College women's tennis team began its 2025 fall season at the Columbia Invite over this past weekend from Friday, September 12 to Sunday, September 14 in Inwood.Â
During the three day event, the Seahawks competed in hidden duals against some of the top teams in the region, the Seahawks faced off against Cornell, Stony Brook, and host-school Columbia.Â
The Seahawks competed well, but managed one win in doubles only. During day two of competition, junior Dariana Vera and sophomore Victoria Madail emerged victorious, 6-3, in a doubles match against Stony Brook's Mia Palladino and Sanjana Devineni.
On the final day of play, freshman Hannah Fitzgerald took an impressive 6-2 first set in singles against Cornell's Emma Baker, but Baker held on for a three set win.
"We play this event each year to gauge our level with stronger teams and use it to mark our progress as we improve over the course of the year" said Head Coach Jeff Menaker. "We learned a lot this weekend and we're ready to take those lessons into practice and the NEC Individuals next weekend."
The Seahawks are back in action at Binghamton this upcoming weekend from Friday, September 19 to Sunday, September 21. First serve is set for 9:00 am on Friday.
