Football Opens 2025 Season at Kansas on Friday

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Wagner football begins its 2025 season Friday night at FBS and Big 12 member Kansas. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. CT (7:30 p.m. ET) at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium, with live coverage on ESPN+.

This marks Wagner's eighth season facing two FBS opponents and its first FBS season opener since 2021 at Buffalo. Friday's contest will be the first-ever meeting between the Seahawks and the Jayhawks, and Wagner's first ever game against a Big 12 opponent. The Seahawks previously faced BYU in 2015, prior to the Cougars joining the Big 12.

Wagner enters 2025 under sixth-year head coach Tom Masella, who guided the program to a 4-8 record and a 2-4 Northeast Conference (NEC) mark last fall. The Seahawks opened last year's campaign with a 46-7 victory over Virginia University-Lynchburg. Their last season-opening road win came in 2014, a 21-3 triumph at Georgetown.

The Seahawks are led by four Preseason All-NEC honorees: senior center Brady Anderson, junior wide receiver Teree McDonald, junior defensive lineman Logan Barnes, and senior linebacker Jordan Johnson.

On offense, sophomore Jack Stevens and senior Jordan Barton will see time under center. Graduate student Andre Hines Jr. and junior Sekou Kamau highlight the backfield, while McDonald, junior Jeremiah Colclough, redshirt-senior Malik Cooper, and senior Derek Burrell anchor the receiving corps. Anderson returns to anchor the offensive line.

Defensively, senior Sam Martin, redshirt-senior Riley Dravet, senior Jayden Brown, and graduate student Akil Lampley headline the secondary. Johnson and junior Armani Itote will patrol the linebacker unit, while Barnes, senior Olanrewaju Adeyemi, and graduate student Luke Jakubauskas bolster the defensive line.

On special teams, graduate student Joshua Brown, juniors Ryan Liszner and Nick Ciucci, and senior Joseph Taikina are expected to contribute.

Friday's matchup begins a six-game road slate for the Seahawks. Wagner will next travel to Georgetown on Saturday, Sept. 6, for a 1 p.m. ET kickoff against the Hoyas.
