Staten Island, NY – The Wagner football team has announced its captains for the 2025 season: senior offensive lineman
Brady Anderson, senior defensive back/wide receiver
Sam Martin, and junior defensive lineman
Logan Barnes.
"I'm proud of the leadership this group has shown both on and off the field," said head coach Tom Masella. "Our captains have earned the respect of their teammates through their work ethic, toughness, and commitment to the program. They set the standard every day, and I know they'll do a great job leading our team this season."
Anderson enters his second season as a team captain for the Seahawks. The Sparta, NJ native started all 12 games at center in 2024 and was named to the All-NEC Preseason Team ahead of the 2025 campaign. Anderson anchored the offensive line that paved the way for running back
Rickey Spruill to eclipse 600 rushing yards last season, pushing Spruill's career total past the 2,000-yard mark.
Barnes appeared in 11 games last season, recording 39 tackles, including 13 solo stops, 8.5 tackles for loss, and 4.5 sacks. The Staten Island native notched 1.5 tackles for loss in games against Columbia, Saint Francis U, and LIU, and tallied a season-best 1.5 sacks in Wagner's win over Saint Francis U.
Martin appeared in all 12 games as a key contributor on defense and special teams. The Staten Island native finished the season with 51 total tackles, including 32 solo stops and 3.5 sacks. Martin posted a season-high eight tackles at Stonehill, including 1.5 tackles for loss, and added sacks in three different games, highlighted by a six-yard sack against Robert Morris. He also registered an interception with a 48-yard return at Duquesne, broke up four passes, and forced one fumble. In addition to his defensive impact, Martin proved to be a reliable kickoff returner, compiling 477 yards on 21 returns, including a season-long 57-yard return at Stonehill.
The Seahawks open the 2025 campaign on Friday, August 29, with a road matchup at Big 12 opponent Kansas. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 PM CT / 7:30 PM ET.
