Bridgewater, NJ - Wagner College athletics finished the 38th annual Northeast Conference (NEC) Brenda Weare Commissioner Cup in second place, announced by the conference on Tuesday.
The NEC's Commissioner's Cup program rewards the all-around performance of an athletic program in NEC sponsored sports.
Second place marks the best finish in Wagner College history since the Commissioner's Cup was introduced after the 1986-87 season. The Seahawks took a huge jump in the standings, climbing from seventh place last year to an all-time-best second-place finish.
On the women's side, the Seahawks garnered 116.94 points while the men's teams added 77.22 points for a third-place finish. Overall, Wagner scored 194.16 total points, falling to LIU which scored a grand total of 198.67 points.
Baseball, field hockey, men's cross country, men's indoor track & field, women's cross country, women's indoor track & field, women's outdoor track & field, women's soccer, and women's lacrosse all earned above 10 points for the Seahawks.
After LIU and Wagner, Saint Francis U finished third with 190 points, CCSU took fourth with 174.95 points, Stonehill received fifth with 173.95 points, FDU finished sixth with 172 points as Le Moyne, Mercyhurst, and Chicago State rounded out the bottom of the list. The Dolphins scored 111.85 points while the Lakers scored 90.63 and the Cougars completed their first full season within the NEC with 87.32 points.
