Poughkeepsie, NY - The No. 20 Wagner women's water polo team is set to begin its 2025 MAAC Championship run in the semifinal round against Mount St. Mary's. After earning a first-round bye, the Seahawks will play on Saturday, April 26 at 12:00 PM at McCann Natatorium in Poughkeepsie, NY, hosted by Marist College. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
The Non-Conference Slate
Wagner concluded its non-conference slate with an 8-7 record and three top-25 wins. The Seahawks earned their first-ever victory over No. 16 Michigan on February 8, winning 12-8, followed by a 14-9 triumph over No. 14 Indiana the very next day. Their third ranked win came on March 2 against No. 23 Cal Baptist. Thanks to those marquee victories, Wagner climbed from a preseason No. 18 national ranking up to No. 15 in week four of the ACWPC poll.
National Recognition
Wagner opened the season ranked No. 18 in the ACWPC National Poll and climbed as high as No. 15 in week four following their back-to-back wins over Michigan and Indiana.
Senior attacker
Carlota Alonso received national recognition, being named to the Cutino Award Watch List, which highlights the top collegiate players in the country. Alonso was one of just 20 athletes selected nationwide.
MAAC Play
In conference play, Wagner went 11-1 to capture its fourth straight MAAC regular season title and 14th overall. The Seahawks averaged 18 goals per game with a +5.25 goal differential. Over the past decade, Wagner has amassed a remarkable 99-2 record in MAAC regular season play, with their only two losses coming to Marist in 2015 and La Salle this season.Â
MAAC Awards
Carlota Alonso was named Co-Offensive Player of the Year, setting a new conference record with five Player of the Week awards.
Francesca Sena, junior goalkeeper, earned Goalie of the Year honors for the second straight season.Â

Ana Arias earned Second Team honors.
Seahawks In The MAAC Championship
Wagner is aiming to win back-to-back MAAC Championships for the first time since their six-year title run from 2014 to 2019. The Seahawks, who have claimed eight of the last eleven championships and 11 overall, will face Mount St. Mary's, the No. 3 seed from the blue division. The Mountaineers advanced after upsetting LIU, 13-11, the No. 2 seed from the red division, in the opening round. Wagner defeated Mount St. Mary's during the regular season, 15-12 on April 6.
A win on Saturday would send the Seahawks to the MAAC Championship game on Sunday, April 27 at 12:00 PM, where they would face the winner of Marist and Villanova. The championship game will also be live on ESPN+.
