Box Score West Windsor, NJ – The Wagner College women's tennis team fell to St. Francis (PA) in the semifinal of the NEC Tennis Tournament at Mercer County Park on Friday.
Looking to turn around a 4-3 loss to SFU from March, the Seahawks had leads on multiple courts, but it was the doubles point that ultimately prevented a path to victory.
SFU reversed results from the March matchup on doubles courts 1 and 2 to take a 1-0 lead.
Wins on courts 1, 5 and 4 sealed the victory for the Red Flash, with Wagner senior Paula Uy dropping a heartbreaker at #4, 7-6 (4), 7-5 to SFU's Kelly Dowuana.
In lineup positions Wagner won in March, graduate Daniela Hernandez took the first set at #3 while freshman Victoria Madail had just started a third set at #2. However, the clinch came too soon for the Seahawks.
The Seahawks will look to improve on its best NEC tournament result since 2001, as Wagner adds several outstanding recruits for 2025/26.
