Bridgewater, N.J. — Wagner earned two Northeast Conference Athlete of the Week honors after both track and field teams finished strong across the board at Bucknell's Bison Outdoor Classic over the weekend.
Senior Gia Comerford earned Co-Track Athlete of the Week for a personal-best and conference-leading performance in the women's 1,500-meter run. Comerford's 4:27.93 finish in the 1,500-meter run invite was good for a ten-place finish of the event's 82 runners. With that time, Comerford sits atop the NEC standings in the event.
Joining her is junior Franklin Simms, who was named Co-Field Athlete of the Week for his discus throw. Finishing in fifth place at Bucknell's Bison Outdoor Classic in the discus throw, junior Franklin Simms logged a 50.66-meter throw, which leads the NEC and is over three meters longer than the next closest throw.
Along with Comerford and Simms, junior Laura Trenado, sophomore Rylee Ferretti, senior Ruth-Ann Chambers and freshman Julio Tatis earned Prime Performer honors.
Trenado posted a 4:30.58 time in the 1,500-meter run that put her in fourteenth place at the meet and second place in the conference, while Ferretti's 36:00.00 time at the Bison Outdoor Classic 10,000-meter run landed her in twelfth place and atop the conference. Chambers won the 100-meter hurdles with a 13.65-second time and ran in the eighth-placing 4x400-meter relay team. Tatis' sixth place, 48.14-second time in the 400-meter dash puts the newcomer at third place in the conference standings.
Next up, the Wagner contingent will split up on Saturday, April 19 and head to both the Rider Relays and Rutgers Relays.
