Teaneck, NJ - The Wagner College women's tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision to NEC rival Mercyhurst on Sunday.
At neutral site Fairleigh Dickinson in Teaneck, NJ, the Seahawks swept the doubles point behind a 6-0 win on court #3 for junior
Samantha Bentsianov and graduate
Daniela Hernandez. It was 6-3 on court #2 for sophomore
Dariana Vera and freshman
Victoria Madail. Freshmen
Liepa Sataite and
Claudia Lindsey won a back and forth affair in the top spot, 7-6 (6).
In singles, Mercyhurst responded with straight set wins on courts 1 and 2. However, Wagner senior Paula Uy made quick work of her opponent at #4, 6-1, 6-1, to knot the overall match at 2-2.
Hernandez took her first set on court #3, but was unable to convert multiple match points in the second set, ultimately falling 6-4, 6-7 (13), 3-6.
Lindsey tied it again with a 6-0, 6-0 win at #6. With the match knotted 3-3, the Lakers found their fourth point on court #5. Vera dropped her match in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2 and the Lakers rode back to Erie, PA with a 4-3 win.
The Seahawks return to action next Saturday, April 5th, to celebrate their seniors on Senior Day. First serve is slated for 6pm vs Monmouth at the College of Staten Island Indoor Tennis Center.
