Women’s Tennis Drops Contest Against Le Moyne

Dewitt, NYThe Wagner College women's tennis team suffered a close 4-3 loss to Le Moyne College on Saturday, March 1st.

With a winter storm bearing down on the Syracuse region, the teams agreed to play singles first. Wagner saw strong performances at the top of the lineup. Freshman Liepa Sataite won the #1 singles spot in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. Fellow freshman Victoria Madail also triumphed in the #2 singles spot, winning 6-3, 2-6, 6-0. Graduate student Daniela Hernandez rounded out the early success for the Seahawks, securing a 6-1, 1-6, 6-4 victory in the #3 singles spot as Wagner took a 3-0 lead.

Despite early leads at #4-6 singles for the Seahawks, Le Moyne claimed victories in the final three singles matches to make the doubles point necessary.

In doubles play, the Dolphins secured the doubles point with victories in the #1 and #2 spots, leaving the Seahawks unable to capitalize on their opportunities.

The Seahawks return to action on Friday, March 7, traveling to Manhattan to face Columbia. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m.
