Baltimore, MD - The Wagner College women's tennis team earned a 5-2 road win at Morgan State on Sunday, March 9.
Wagner kept the momentum through singles play. Freshman
Liepa Sataite avenged a #1 doubles loss, taking the #1 singles match, 6-1, 6-3. Madail won 6-3, 6-3 at #2. Hernandez was a 7-5, 6-3 winner at #3. Senior Paula Uy secured an inspiring 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (6) victory at #4.
Freshman
Claudia Lindsey fought back from a set down to force a third set, but fell in a 10 point tiebreaker at #6, with the overall match already clinched for Wagner.
"We had some really exceptional performances today in singles, facing a tough opponent on the road." said Wagner's head coach,
Jeff Menaker. "Liepa and Vicky were roaring with confidence at the top of the lineup. Â Daniela and Paula were resilient and very clutch on important points. Paula fought off multiple match points and didn't have a lead until she earned and converted the only match point she needed, deep in the third set tiebreaker."
The Seahawks return to Staten Island for a Saturday, March 15th NEC match against St. Francis (PA). First serve is scheduled for 6pm at the College of Staten Island Indoor Tennis Center.
