Men's Basketball Drops Final Regular Season Road Matchup At LIU

Brooklyn, NY - The Wagner College men's basketball team fell to the LIU Sharks by a score of 60-47 at the Steinberg Wellness Center on Thursday night.

Wagner and LIU went back-and-forth for a majority of the first half, as there were six lead changes and five different times the game was tied in the first 20 minutes of game action.

The Seahawks and Sharks were tied, 15-15, after 5:22 left in the period. LIU would finish the first on a 13-7 run to lead 28-22 at the break. 

Senior Tyje Kelton and graduate student Zae Blake led the Seahawks offense with seven points each. Junior R.J. Greene scored four points while graduate student Ja'Kair Sanchez and freshman Zavier Fitch scored two points apiece.

In the second half, LIU jumped out to a double-digit point lead midway through the period, leading by 18 with 7:31 remaining in the game. 

The Seahawks would bring the game within 12 on two separate occasions, including a Kelton three-pointer that forced an LIU timeout with 2:19 on the game clock.

In the end, LIU would prevail over Wagner, 60-47.

With the loss, the Seahawks fall to 14-14 on the 2024-25 season, with a mark of 6-9 in Northeast Conference (NEC) action.

LIU climbs to 15-15 on its season with an 11-4 mark in conference play. 

Blake led all Seahawks with 14 points, Kelton followed with 10, Greene scored nine, Fitch added eight points and grabbed a team-high six rebounds, and Sanchez finished with six points. 

Wagner outscored LIU 14-9 in points off of turnovers, while committing six less turnovers throughout the entirety of the game. 

Next up, the Green & White will conclude its regular season against the CCSU Blue Devils on Saturday, March 1 at the Spiro Sports Center. Tip-off is set for 6:00 pm on ESPNU.
