Staten Island, NY - The Wagner College women's tennis team dropped a close contest to visiting Norfolk State on Saturday night, 4-3.
The doubles point was the difference as the teams split singles play 3-3. Despite a 6-3 win at #2 doubles from junior Samantha Bensianov and partner, grad student
Daniela Hernandez, the Seahawks fell on doubles courts #1 and #3 by identical 6-2 scores.
The Seahawks evened the score when Hernandez secured a 6-2, 6-3 win at #3 singles. Freshman
Victoria Madail, playing in the #1 spot for the first time, tied the match at 2-2 with a 6-2, 7-6 (8) triumph that got the home crowd buzzing. While Bensianov took a first set and her match 6-4, 3-6, 10-3, it wasnt enough as the Spartans took straight set wins on courts 2, 4 and 5.Â
The Seahawks return to action next weekend traveling to face Colgate on Friday, February 28. First serve will be at 7pm.
