Geneva, OH – The Wagner College men's swimming and diving team earned a strong second-place finish at the Northeast Conference (NEC) championship on Saturday night, coming just seven points behind Howard, who took first place in the event.
Sophomore Nikko Carrillo had a standout performance, winning the 200-yard butterfly and setting a meet record with a time of 1:48.23. He was closely followed by sophomore Manuel Villalpando, who finished in third place with a time of 1:50.96. Carrillo also excelled in the 200-yard backstroke, where he secured second place with a time of 1:47.77, with freshman Florian Schumich finishing right behind him in third place, also clocking in at 1:47.77.
Adrian Andres Moreno also had an impressive showing, winning the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:59.02. Villalpando added to his successful meet with another top-three finish, securing third place in the 200-yard breaststroke. Freshman Ben McLaughlin had a strong performance in the 1650-yard freestyle, claiming second place with a time of 15:38.41, while junior Ruben Van Gool finished third with a time of 16:12.77.
In the 100-yard freestyle, sophomore Senan Noonan earned second place with a time of 45.11. To close out the championship, Noonan, Van Gool, graduate Enrico Mancardo, and junior Joel Knappi finished third in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:02.15.
