STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The Wagner College men's basketball team will continue its four-game homestand on Wednesday, December 17, hosting Maryland Eastern Shore inside the Spiro Sports Center. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m., with coverage available on NEC Front Row and Ryz Sports Network featuring Joey Wahler and Ryan Peters on the call.
Wednesday's contest marks the seventh all-time meeting between the two programs, a series that dates back to 1952. Wagner holds a 5–1 advantage and has won the last four matchups, including a 63–61 road victory last season.
Maryland Eastern Shore (4–11, 0–0 MEAC) enters the matchup riding a five-game losing streak, most recently falling 82–53 at Virginia Tech. The Hawks are led by head coach Cleo Hill Jr. in his second season. UMES is averaging 62.9 points per game, the ninth-lowest mark in Division I this season. Senior forward Joseph Locandro paces the Hawks with 11.4 points and 3.9 rebounds per game.
Wagner (3–6, 0–0 NEC) comes in off a thrilling 95–93 overtime victory against Bloomfield on December 11. The win marked the Seahawks' third overtime game of the season and their second overtime victory. Junior
Bryan Akanmu led the way with 18 points and four rebounds, including the game-winning free throws, earning NEC Prime Performer honors for his efforts.
The Seahawks currently lead the NEC in rebounds per game (41.4). Sophomore
Zavier Fitch tops the team with 7.0 rebounds per contest, ranking seventh in the conference.
Following Wednesday's matchup, the Green & White will wrap up non-conference play at home on Monday, December 22, against Manor College. Tip-off is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
