STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The Wagner College football team closed out its 2025 home schedule with a 20–14 victory over Stonehill on Saturday afternoon at Hameline Field, earning its fourth NEC win and fifth victory overall. Prior to kickoff, 26 seniors were honored for their contributions to the Wagner football program as part of the Seahawks' Senior Day ceremony.
With the win, the Seahawks (5–6, 4–2 NEC) secured their first winning conference record since 2016. Wagner has now won four straight games — the program's longest winning streak since 2012, when the Seahawks won nine consecutive contests en route to an NEC Championship.
Wagner struck early, as senior linebacker
Jordan Johnson intercepted a pass and returned it 30 yards for a touchdown just over four minutes into the game to give the Seahawks a 7–0 lead. The defensive score marked Johnson's second touchdown of the season and Wagner's fourth defensive touchdown of the year.
Later in the opening quarter, freshman kicker
Nicholas Romero extended the lead with a 40-yard field goal, capping a 14-play, 56-yard drive that lasted more than seven minutes to make it 10–0.
After a scoreless second quarter, Stonehill (3–8, 2–4 NEC) pulled within 10–7 midway through the third period, but the Seahawks quickly responded. Graduate student
Andre Hines Jr. capped a 10-play, 70-yard drive with a nine-yard rushing touchdown — his team-leading seventh of the season — to push the lead back to double digits at 17–7.
Romero added his second field goal of the day, a 41-yarder early in the fourth quarter, to extend the advantage to 20–7. The Skyhawks cut the deficit to 20–14 with just under nine minutes remaining, but Wagner's defense closed the door with a series of key stops, highlighted by a late fourth-down sack from graduate student
Luke Jakubauskas to secure the win.
Wagner finished with 245 yards of total offense, including 189 on the ground, and controlled the ball for more than 34 minutes. Hines led the way with 139 rushing yards and one touchdown on 26 carries, while senior
Damien Mazil and sophomore
Sekou Kamau combined for 32 additional rushing yards. Mazil also completed six passes for 37 yards, while sophomore
Jack Stevens went 2-of-2 for 19 yards before exiting early.
Freshman
Malik Redd led the Seahawks in receiving with 16 yards, while redshirt-senior
Malik Cooper added a 15-yard catch.
Defensively, Wagner continued its dominant play with five sacks and six tackles for loss. Jakubauskas led the charge with two sacks and three quarterback hurries, while sophomore
Ethan Appolon and senior
Olanrewaju Adeyemi each added sacks of their own. Johnson and graduate student
Daren Omoregie both contributed turnovers, with Johnson's interception touchdown and Omoregie's third-quarter fumble recovery.
Senior
Sam Martin and sophomore
Jayden Brown each recorded six tackles, while junior
Shamar Williams posted two pass breakups in the secondary.
Romero was perfect on the day, connecting on both field goal attempts (40, 41) and both extra points.
Wagner outgained Stonehill 189–162 on the ground and dominated time of possession, holding the ball for 34:35 compared to the Skyhawks' 25:25.
The Seahawks close out their 2025 season next Saturday, November 22, traveling to face LIU in Brookville, N.Y. Kickoff is set for 12:00 p.m. on NEC Front Row.
