BROOKVILLE, N.Y. — The Wagner College football team closed out the 2025 season on Saturday afternoon, falling 24–17 to LIU at Shark Stadium.
The Seahawks (5–7, 4–3 NEC) struck first midway through the opening quarter, capping a six-play, 52-yard drive with a five-yard touchdown run from graduate student
Andre Hines Jr. LIU (6–6, 4–3 NEC) responded minutes later with a 16-yard touchdown pass to even the score at 7–7.
After a scoreless second quarter, the Sharks opened the second half with a 42-yard touchdown run to take a 14–7 lead. Wagner cut the deficit to 14–10 at the 8:07 mark of the third quarter when freshman kicker
Nicholas Romero drilled a 37-yard field goal. Moments later, the Seahawks seized the momentum when junior
Shamar Williams scooped up a fumble and raced 62 yards for a touchdown, giving Wagner a 17–14 advantage.
LIU answered early in the fourth quarter with an 87-yard scoring drive capped by a two-yard touchdown run to retake the lead at 21–17. The Sharks extended their margin to 24–17 with a 32-yard field goal at the 4:12 mark. Wagner drove into LIU territory in the final two minutes but ultimately turned the ball over on downs at the 39-yard line, sealing the result.
Wagner finished with 248 yards of total offense, including 195 on the ground. Hines led the way with 74 rushing yards and a touchdown on 20 carries, while sophomore
Matt Morad added 50 yards and junior
Sekou Kamau chipped in 46. Senior
Damien Mazil completed 11 of 21 passes for 53 yards and added 23 rushing yards.
Defensively, senior
Sam Martin posted a team-high nine tackles, while redshirt-junior
Daren Omoregie added eight stops and a tackle for loss. Williams' 62-yard fumble-return touchdown highlighted a defensive effort that forced two turnovers, including a second-quarter interception by junior
Colton Guerrero.
Wagner controlled time of possession (30:35) and outgained LIU 195–162 on the ground, but the Sharks totaled 433 yards overall and produced two key fourth-quarter scoring drives to close out the game.
The contest concludes Wagner's 2025 season, as the Seahawks finish with five wins — their highest total since 2016 — and their first winning NEC record (4–3) since that same season.
