Football Host Defending NEC Champion CCSU for Homecoming Showdown

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Wagner football continues NEC play on Saturday, October 18, hosting Central Connecticut State as part of Wagner Homecoming Weekend. Kickoff is set for 5:00 p.m. on Hameline Field, streaming live on NEC Front Row and the Ryz Sports Network with Marc Ernay and Ray Martel on the call.

Saturday's contest marks the 26th all-time meeting between the Seahawks and the Blue Devils, with CCSU holding a 15-10 series advantage and winning the last seven matchups.

The defending NEC champions, CCSU (4-3, 2-0 NEC), enters the weekend following a 24-12 victory over Robert Morris. The Blue Devils opened the year with a loss at UConn before defeating American International and Saint Francis U. After back-to-back setbacks against Merrimack and Dartmouth, CCSU bounced back with conference wins over Sacred Heart and Robert Morris. Running back Elijah Howard leads the NEC with 482 rushing yards, while the Blue Devils rank second in the conference in scoring defense (24.4 ppg). CCSU was selected to repeat as NEC champions in the Preseason Coaches Poll.

Wagner (1-5, 0-1 NEC) began conference play with a 19-7 loss to Mercyhurst on October 11. The Seahawks totaled 304 yards of offense, led by senior quarterback Jordan Barton, who completed 10-of-16 passes for 123 yards and a touchdown. Sophomore Jack Stevens added 60 yards through the air, while junior Sekou Kamau paced the ground game with 47 rushing yards. Graduate student Andre Hines Jr. and redshirt freshman Matt Morad each contributed 27 yards on the ground. Defensively, senior Sam Martin tallied 12 tackles, senior Jordan Johnson added 10, and junior Jouvenson Romulus chipped in seven. The Seahawk defense limited Mercyhurst to 3.9 yards per carry and forced three punts inside the 20.

Wagner head coach Tom Masella previously served as the head coach at Central Connecticut State for two seasons (2004–05). During his tenure, the Blue Devils captured back-to-back NEC Championships, posting a 15-6 overall record and a perfect 9-0 mark in conference play.

Prior to kickoff, four former Seahawks will be inducted into the Wagner Athletics Hall of Fame, with the ceremony beginning at 12:00 p.m. in the Spiro Sports Center.

As part of the day's festivities, the "Wagner Gameday" show—hosted by Ernay and Martel—will air live from the Oval at 2:30 p.m. The show will feature appearances from head coach Tom Masella, Wagner College President Jeff Doggett, Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Walt Hameline, and student-athletes from multiple programs. Coverage will stream live on NEC Front Row, Facebook, and YouTube.

Following Homecoming Weekend, the Seahawks continue their three-game homestand hosting Duquesne on October 25 for a 12:00 p.m. kickoff on ESPN+.
