Women’s Soccer Shuts Out SFU 3-0

Staten Island, N.Y. – The Wagner women's soccer team continued its strong NEC campaign on Sunday afternoon, earning a 3-0 victory over Saint Francis at Hameline Field on senior day.

Sophomore Kelly Gallagher opened the scoring for the Seahawks in the thirty-second minute, finishing off a clean pass from graduate student Clara Looney to put Wagner ahead 1-0. The goal marked Gallagher's third of the season as the Seahawks carried that lead into halftime.

In the second half, Wagner's offense remained relentless. Sophomore Anayah Rivera doubled the advantage in the sixty-second minute after getting a rebounded ball from the goalie — due to a previous shot taken by senior captain Izzy Gomez – putting the ball in the box for her first time of the season. The Green & White sealed the win in the 87th minute when Gomez fired home her team-leading fourth goal of the year to make it 3-0.

The Seahawks dominated throughout, outshooting Saint Francis 18-4 and recording 10 shots on target compared to none for the Red Flash. Gallagher led the attack with seven total shots, including four on goal, while sophomore Deirdre Meberg added three shots attempts of her own.

With the win, Wagner improved to 5-2-5 overall and 4-1-1 in NEC play, while Saint Francis dropped to 0-10-3 (0-5-1). The Seahawks will look to extend their unbeaten run Sunday, Oct. 19 in a 3 p.m. road game at Le Moyne in Syracuse, New York.
