STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The Wagner College field hockey team (5-8, 4-2 NEC) fell to Coastal Athletic Association member Hofstra (6-7, 0-2 CAA) by a score of 4-3 in overtime on Sunday afternoon.
Junior Felicitas Herrero struck first off of a penalty stroke five-and-a-half minutes after the opening center pass.
Early in the second quarter, sophomore Julia de Leeuw scored her second goal in as many games after sophomore Erika Parker and freshman Julie Povel combined to set up Leeuw and extend Wagner's lead to two.
Midway through the same frame, junior Floortje Leunisse scored her team-high seventh goal of the season off of the Seahawks' second penalty stroke of the half. The Seahawks took that 3-0 lead into the halftime break.
In the third quarter, Hofstra scored its first goal just after the five minute mark passed. The Pride would not score again until the 57th minute mark and the 58th minute mark to tie the game, 3-3, after four quarters of play.
Four minutes and 11 seconds into the overtime period, Hofstra found the back of the cage to prevail over the Seahawks, 4-3.
On defense, sophomore Saar van Dalen recorded four saves to bring her season total to 69 in her 730 minutes of gametime.
As a team, Wagner took 10 shots with five on target and five penalty corners; comparatively, Hofstra attempted 22 shots with eight on target and 13 penalty corners.
